Good Grub Tonight

Student-Athlete Welcome BBQGood grub tonight.  Check out that spread.  Every year the student-athletes are treated to a first-day-of-school barbecue.  Held under  the football stadium’s west-side stands, no one goes away hungry.  The training table doesn’t open until Monday, so few miss the chance to fill up on chicken, ribs, brisket, hamburgers, shredded beef, kabobs, corn on the cob, collard greens, watermelon and much more.  There is no getting around it, the food is awesome.  Gran Daddy’s does it right.

Showing early-season teamwork, baseball is always the first team in line. How do I know?  Matching shirts every year.  Other teams filter in.  Picking out the freshmen  is a breeze as they hesitate and make tentative moves towards tables, temporarily unsure how they fit in.  You can always surmise that some coaches have hit conditioning drills hard before the barbecue.  Certain athletes tread very lightly as they make their way from buffet to table.  Of course, seniors rule.  Their confidence and ease shines through every year, And, since these are young college students, don’t forget this is the first real chance for the check out.  Amazingly, some have already begun the hook up process.  Nothing like being young.

I always love the barbecue.  It’s great to see everyone.  Things are going to get moving faster and faster.  Hang on.
